Forest - once again

This is a new version of the painting from the previous post from Lisbjerg Forest! This time without the sunbeams - and this time I used watercolor. And this time the proportions are more correct, on the previous one, in oil, I had compressed the height to make the trees fit on a canvas, and something wasn't right about that. I didn't paint the sunbeams this time, because I wanted a different feel to this forest picture.

Watercolor, 24 x 36 cm, on Fabriano Studio 300 g CP paper.

Butterflies in forest meadow

Watercolor, 35 x 26 cm. Paper: Fabriano artistico CP 300g.

This is a couple of Silver washed fritillary in a forest meadow in Lisbjerg Forest near Aarhus.

It's watercolor, but I used a couple of nearly opaque watercolors for ligthening several areas: Turners Yellow and Naples Yellow Deep. These are both single pigment colors and they're both Winsor Newton). They behave nearly as gouache, but they are much easier to use as they come in pans and don't dry up.

Streaming water

Once more I've made a painting from Tryggevælde Å (Tryggevælde River). The name "trygge-vælde" in old-danish probably means "three springs". This is one of the recently restored windings of the river.

Watercolor and some gouache on Fabriano CP, 31 x 23 cm.

Restored river

Tryggevælde Å - a restored part of the river. A couple of years ago this part of the river was a canal with slow moving water. Now there's windings, fast flowing water and many large rocks.

Watercolor with some gouache, 31 x 23 cm, on Fabriano CP.

Forest, autumn

A path through Marselisborg Forest, Aarhus. This was painted recently from a photo from 2007. The leaves have autumn colors - brown, red and yellow, though not as intense as they can be in some other years. The undergrowth is still mostly green, and the sun is low on the sky, it's november. Watercolor, 31 cm x 23 cm on Saunders HP paper.

Mushrooms

Mushrooms in the forest. Watercolor, 18 x 24 cm on Hahnemühle paper. I think I need to work on getting the edges more precise.

Holtum Stream

Holtum Stream (Holtum Å) with white flowers of water-crowfoot.

Watercolor on 18 x 26 cm Fabriano HP.

Path by Lake Torup, with heather and trees

Watercolor and watercolor pencils on 18 x 24 cm Fabriano Desegno paper (this is actually a paper made for drawing, but it is also great for watercolor if you're not using a very wet technique). The light grasses in the front were drawn with Caran d'Ache Supracolor, with these it is possible to draw/paint light on dark, without using gouache or white watercolor.

Some studies in watercolor and gouache

Watercolor, gouache and colored pencil. 38 x 26 cm ( 15'' x 10'') on Arches HP. Landscape from Mols Bjerge, Jutland.

Watercolor, gouache and colored pencil. 9'' x 12'' on Fabriano CP. Landscape from Vokslev, Northern Jutland. The yellow flowers are Ragwort, and the purple flowers are Greater Knapweed. Maybe it's a little too colorful?

Watercolor, gouache and acrylics. 9'' x 12'' on Fabriano CP. I had problems with the sky so I ended up using acrylics for this part. A stream near Fussingø. The white flowers are Cow Parsley. I'm not really happy about this one, but maybe I'll use it as a sketch - maybe for an oilpainting?

Watercolor, 7'' x 10''. From the coast along Limfjorden by Lønnerup Fjord. I plan to make an oilpainting of this, so I made this watercolor to test the potentials.

Pond in evening light

Pond near Moesgaard in evening light, with large oak-trees and some smaller bushes. It's painted from a photo. Except for all the bird sounds there was very silent this evening. Only once did I hear a tree-frog! There are many tree-frogs at this lake, so I had hoped to hear more, but they start croaking (singing) later, after the sun sets.

Watercolor, 31 x 23 cm (12'' x 9'') on Saunders Waterford 300 g/m2 HP. This is the first time I've used HP (hot press) watercolor paper, it is much smoother than I'm used to. Washes are harder to do on this paper compared to CP (cold press) I think, but details seems to be easier.

Stream

Spring by the stream and the old mill-house, Moesgaard Forest.
Watercolour with a little gouache, on 9'' x 12'' (23 x 30 cm), Fabriano Artistico CP, 140lbs.
I finally found some watercolour-paper that I really like!
